Fraudsters circulate colourful posters on Instagram, Telegram, and Facebook advertising "Rent Boyfriend" companion services (coffee dates, movie outings, weddings, shopping) at prices ranging from Rs 499 to Rs 4,499 per package. Profile images are AI-generated or scraped from the internet. Once contacted, fraudsters befriend victims, then demand advance payments via QR codes and digital wallets for booking confirmation or security deposits, after which the accounts are blocked. Victims who share personal photos or phone numbers also face follow-on threats, blackmail, and sextortion.
