New Fraud Typologies and Scams

Fraudsters impersonate police, CBI or ED officials via audio-video calls, place victims under digital arrest, and pressure them into transferring funds to accounts described as Secret Supervision Accounts. In this case, a Goa woman transferred Rs 2.60 crore between May and June 2025. The network deposited the funds across 400+ beneficiary accounts, withdrew them as cash, and converted them to foreign currency through RBI-licensed money changers. A chartered accountant incorporated 21 shell companies with 43 dummy directors, drivers and low-income employees, to layer and legitimise the proceeds.
